Noam Vazana, my friend who is a great singer/songwriter and recording and touring artist (she did 90 shows last year!) joined me again to comment on a performance of one of our shared idols: Freddie Mercury.
The performance is his duet with Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballe, first recorded in 1988.
Some things we noticed:
- It seems like this performance is more of a music video than a live performance. Freddie and Montserrat Caballe do appear to sing – and probably do – but the music you hear is probably pre-recorded. That’s understandable, given the
- It’s interesting how they made the contrast work between the gravely sound of Freddie and the clean, operatic sound of Montserrat. Freddie doesn’t try to sing more clean in the heavy passages, on the contrary.
