Choirs in the Netherlands: Find a Choir in Your City
Looking for choirs in the Netherlands? Start with our English-language guides to Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague. Choose your city below to explore local choirs, vocal ensembles and singing groups.
As a singing teacher and choir director, I often meet singers who would love to join a choir but aren’t sure where to start. These guides bring the options together so you can find music you enjoy and a group that fits your experience. This overview currently covers four cities.
Choirs in Amsterdam
Explore musical theatre, pop, classical music and more. The Amsterdam guide includes amateur groups and professional ensembles, organised by genre and language. Check individual entries to see which groups might suit you.
Explore choirs in Amsterdam →Choirs in Utrecht
From musical theatre and pop to classical repertoire and close harmony, the Utrecht guide brings together a variety of singing groups. Browse their musical styles and descriptions to build your shortlist.
Explore choirs in Utrecht →Choirs in The Hague
Browse choirs by genre, with rehearsal days, neighbourhoods and experience levels included where available. The guide also covers international groups—useful if you are looking for a choir where you can rehearse in English.
Explore choirs in The Hague →Choirs in Rotterdam
Looking for somewhere to sing in Rotterdam? Start with our dedicated city guide, then contact the groups that interest you to ask about their repertoire, rehearsals and opportunities to join.
Explore choirs in Rotterdam →How to choose a choir that suits you
Start with the city you can comfortably travel to each week. Then narrow down your options with these questions:
- Will you enjoy the music? Listen to a recording or look at a recent concert programme. A choir’s broad genre label only tells part of the story.
- Does the level fit? Ask whether you need an audition, previous experience or the ability to read music. Also check how much practice is expected between rehearsals.
- Can you make the rehearsals? Check the day, time and exact location, as well as concert dates and attendance expectations.
- What language are rehearsals in? An English repertoire does not necessarily mean English-speaking rehearsals. Ask directly if you do not speak Dutch.
- Are there places available? A choir may be recruiting only for certain voice parts. Ask about vacancies, fees and whether you can attend a trial rehearsal.
Before you join
Can I join a choir if I have never sung in one?
Look for groups that explicitly welcome beginners or do not require an audition. Ask the conductor what support is available for learning your part, and whether you can try a rehearsal before committing.
Can I join if I do not speak Dutch?
Check the rehearsal language with the choir. International groups can be a useful starting point, but each choir sets its own approach. Our guides are written in English; that does not mean every listed choir rehearses in English.
Are all the listed choirs accepting new members?
Not necessarily. Vacancies, rehearsal arrangements and fees can change. Use the guides to find groups that interest you, then confirm the current details directly with the choir.
